A current transformer (CT) is a type of transformer used to measure alternating current. It generates a current proportional to its primary current in the secondary. The transformer adjusts the larger voltage or current value to a small standardized value that is easy to handle, which is used for measuring instruments and Protective relay. The transformer isolates the measurement or protection circuit from the high voltage of the main system. The secondary current provided by the current transformer is accurately proportional to the current flowing out from its primary.
